(ANSA) - PALERMO, JAN 10 - The municipal council of GeraciSiculo, a town in the Madonie, has rejected by a majority proposal to confer honorary citizenship on Liliana Segre.
The proposal, which aimed to acknowledge the lifelong commitment of the racist against racism, was presented by the opposition group "UniAmo Geraci". The majority of them hailed it for various reasons, including the fact that LilianaSegre would have no particular merit towards the community. Furthermore, the new recognition could have assumed a discriminatory character towards all the other deportees in the Nazi concentration camps. The group leader of the minority, Gaetano Scancarello, considered the reasons for the refusal with which it would have been written "a bad page in the recent political history of Geraci Siculo" to be laughable.
