VIDEO. Scooters, trucks ... there is everything on the bike paths in Paris

2020-01-16T14:19:04.426Z

The new Parisian cycle routes have barely seen the light of day when motorized vehicles are already inviting themselves on the reserved tracks

A truck which delivers on the cycle track rue de Rivoli (Paris IVe), a scooter which insults a cyclist in the cycle track of the Avenue du Trône (Paris XIIe), horses or police motorcycles ...

On social networks, hundreds of street scenes show how Parisians are appropriating "in their own way", the tracks reserved for cycle bikes which have opened in the capital for a few months, as shown in our video above.

This is not without posing a safety problem for those who pedal in a lane that they imagine safe, while the number of cyclists killed increased sharply in the capital in 2019.

Overgrown with delivery trucks, scooters, police vehicles, pedestrians ... These bidirectional and secure cycle paths, separated from motorized traffic, have mostly come out of the ground in recent months as part of the Express Bike Networks (Reve ).

It was a promise from the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, during her first campaign, with an investment plan of 150 million euros.

These tracks - apparently still poorly identified by some - were primarily designed for bikes. But these brand new routes have become all the more tempting for motor vehicles. Wide, two-way and fluid, these new lanes reserved for soft mobility see scooters and motorcycles rushing a little too rushed and sometimes stuck in traffic jams.

Some scooter drivers were caught honking bikes on the bike paths because ... the bikes weren't moving fast enough for their liking.

verbalization

What does the Maris town hall intend to do to ensure that the tracks are respected and to make its 100% bicycle city project a reality?

"We proceed with verbalizations and we have a team of 20 people dedicated to video verbalization" replies Christophe Najdovski, deputy mayor of the City, in charge of Transport. A somewhat limited range of means to cope with the thousands of users who use these routes every day.

But for the elected official, it is above all a sign of the enthusiasm for the use of bicycles in the capital. Because these tracks are a real success. Every day, 8,000 cyclists ride on the track in the rue de Rivoli and pass in front of our counter located near the Parvis of the town hall. They are 90,000 since January 1. In one year, from September 2018 to September 2019, there are more than 54% of cyclists in Paris.

"But more generally, we are in an exceptional situation, a social conflict which has been going on since the beginning of December and which means that thousands of people are on the streets, because there is no transport. This creates conflicts and tensions. We therefore call on the government to assume its responsibilities in order to get out of this situation quickly, ”he insists.

"I appeal to everyone's civic sense because we cannot put a police officer behind each offense!" "Concludes Christophe Najdovski.
