Ecology: in Normandy, Lény, 13, fighting against littering

2020-01-27T16:13:10.539Z

In Pont-de-l'Arche in Eure, this emulator of Greta Thunberg, concerned about the future of the planet, sets off by bike every weekend to pick up

It will be almost a year since Lény Rabotot's life has changed. One year that he has acted on his scale against the harmful effects of our lifestyles on the planet. In the space of a few weeks, the teenager became a vegetarian, began to circulate almost exclusively by bicycle and made the choice to preach ecology daily to his classmates. Like other young French people inspired by the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

“I feel compelled to agree with my convictions. It all really came together after a vacation this summer. My parents wanted me to think of something other than the planet, we went to Spain. Me, I did nothing but read and I came back convinced of the merits of this fight ”, explains the young Eurois.

"I wonder where all this waste comes from!" "

At his level, Lény wishes to raise awareness about the problem of wild dumping of garbage, in particular on the banks of the Eure. Through word of mouth, he and his friends tackle polluted areas or, more simply, go and collect cigarette butts in downtown Pont-de-l'Arche.

"At the water's edge, there are prohibited or stop signs, scrap metal, a lot of plastic ... I often wonder where all this waste comes from, who dares to throw it in such a beautiful environment", describes the young man who installed a trailer on the back of his bike.

The teenager elected eco-delegate in his college does not separate from his mascot, a panda plush bought second hand with which he parades during events for the planet, especially in Rouen (Seine-Maritime).

Lény, who reads the work of scientists on climate issues, thinks more and more of the future of his town. If the municipal council project for young people materializes in Pont-de-l'Arche, he would like to campaign for the greening of educational establishments and for a city center reserved for pedestrians.
