"Revolution" in Angoulême (Charente)! The 47th edition of the BD festival gave its verdict this Saturday evening, during an organized ceremony, as every year at the city theater. And this is the first volume of a saga planned in three volumes, on the French Revolution, published by Acte Sud-Year 2, which was crowned by the jury chaired by the author Marion Montaigne, in which we found also singer Dominique A. and director Noémie Lvovsky.

In these times of general protest and grumbling from the authors, who took advantage of the ceremony to call for a boycott of the next editions in the absence of measures taken quickly, the choice almost seems like a wink. The album of two young authors, Florent Grouazel and Younn Locard, a paving stone of 320 pages, however has all the qualities of a Fauve d'or. Far from the lesson of History, it retraces the events of 1789 at the height of men, at the crossroads of the destinies of characters from the common people, beggar, merchant, deputy of the Third Estate. Screenwriting and graphically, it's abundant and exciting, as was the period.

The special jury prize goes to a Canadian author, Seth, for "Clyde fans", the story of two brothers who are trying to save the family business on the brink of bankruptcy. The Fawn of the series rewards "In the abyss of time", the continuation of the remarkable adaptation of the work of Lovecraft, one of the masters of horror, by the mangaka Gou Tanabe.

Emmanuel Moynot, thriller master

As for the Audience Award, organized in partnership with France Télévisions, Chloé Wary's album, a young 24-year-old author, won the votes: “Saison des roses” tells the story of a football team female in the suburbs.

In the polar department, it is the most experienced Emmanuel Moynot, Tardi's successor on the adaptations of Nestor Burma in BD, who wins the bet with his road movie "No direction". The Youth prizes, awarded from Thursday, had rewarded "Les vermeilles", by Camille Jourdy and manga "Le tigre des neiges, tome 4" in the Young adults category.

As is often the case, the Fauves d'Angoulême have given their share to “small” publishing houses, since only Delcourt, among “the big ones” has been rewarded with “Clyde fans”.
