The company RPB Sociedad Anónima, better known as Baggio , was founded in 1959 in the city of Gualeguaychú, Entre Ríos. Rufino Pablo Baggio wanted to start his own venture to commercialize the wines he made - a family passion -, which over time he added fruit juices , flavored waters, dairy and jams.
Currently, the company is a reference in the marketing of food products, employs more than 1,500 people and its products reach 72 countries, according to its website. However, the firm made headlines in the last hours for a mysterious request that it published in the main media of the country.
There, the board of RPB SA talks about "a scam", "conflict of interest" and an investigation that includes the Entre Ríos Justice and the local Police Department.
"We want to publicize an unlawful act suffered by RPB SA and committed against part of the Baggio family , " the one-page statement begins. And after recounting the objectives and scope of the company, he explains: "The illicit act suffered, consisting of a scam that occurred in December, was duly denounced and is being investigated for the purpose of knowing who its authors and responsible persons are."
He then clarifies: "This scam, despite being important , represents a non-significant percentage in relation to our monthly billing, resulting irrelevant to the normal commercial, financial and industrial activity of RPB SA".
Without giving proper names, figures or other details, the company emphasizes people with conflicts of interest: "The board of RPB SA wants to emphasize especially that it emphatically repudiates the act perpetrated and in particular the use of such an unfortunate event by people in Conflict of interests with RPB SA and its partners , who intend to prevail appetites and interests of a personal nature at the expense of the firm's social interest, trying to make it known, knowing its falsity, that the episode seeks to reduce its activity, regardless of the fact that the economic magnitude of the event represents only the amount of six days of invoicing ".
According to the newspaper El Día de Gualeguaychú, city where the complaint is filed, the scam would have been for little more than 400 million pesos, that is to say 7 million dollars according to the official change. And the cause is investigated by prosecutor Guillermo Biré.
The aforementioned media reveals that a former worker with the surname Veronesi filed the complaint in the local Justice. It was she who would have received an email from the board of directors with the order to make money abroad. As it turned out, these emails did not correspond to the directory; They were fake .
The maneuver that put the entire board on alert is in the middle of a conflict between the four heirs that the firm has. It turns out that the only woman daughter of the late Baggio sold her shares to one of her brothers, who remained as a majority shareholder. However, the usufruct is held by the mother, who, although not participating in the board of directors, elected one of the children with minority shares as president. The board wants to bring greater peace of mind to the staff, collaborators, suppliers, consumers and the general public in the sense that RPB SA along with its managers has adopted and will adopt each and every one of the measures at its disposal to clarify the fact and hold its material and intellectual authors responsible as participants who in any way have participated in the episode .
We want to highlight that the eventual premeditated and irresponsible use of the crime committed against the firm, for the attainment of particular interests, would harm RPB SA for the benefit of a certain competing shareholder, whose action could divert the investigation that the competent Fiscal Unit effectively and diligently carries out from the Judicial Branch of the Province of Entre Ríos, Entre Ríos Police and its Computer Department, to whom we thank for their effective and diligent work done so far and throughout the judicial fair.
