An invasion of locusts is raging in eastern Africa and threatening crops, to the point that Somalia has declared a "national emergency".
Ethiopia and Somalia have not seen swarms of this magnitude in 25 years: only one of them is capable of covering an area of 2,400 km2, the size of Luxembourg.
A locust eats the equivalent of its weight, 2 grams each day, totaling 400,000 t of food.
If no action is taken, the number of locusts could be multiplied by 500 by June.
