Two weeks after the murder of Fernando Báez Sosa in Villa Gesell, for which 10 ruggers from Zárate are being held, the Los Espartanos rugby team released a video on their Facebook page in which they speak "to Fernando Báez's family Sosa, rugby players, people arrested for the murder and the whole society. "
Espartanos is a team made up of detainees that was born in 2009 in San Martín Penal Unit No. 48 with 10 players. Currently, the Espartanos Foundation works in 65 criminal units in different parts of the country and is made up of more than 3,000 players.
Four of them are the ones who speak in the video. Although they are not identified by their names, the first who takes the floor and introduces himself as captain extends "condolences" to the family of Báez Sosa and says that "in the rosary we pray every Friday we are asking for him and his soul " .
"We were the most violent in society, we didn't know rugby, but the values instilled in rugby are learning a new life," adds another of the young people. The captain takes the floor again to emphasize that " rugby is not the problem , it is part of the solution."
Towards the end of the video, in which they ask for no more alcohol in the third half because "alcohol is not necessary to have fun", they talk to the detainees for the crime. "We get tired of making mistakes, but rugby gave us a new opportunity. This is Sparta, it is their home, they are invited to be part of our team, " they close, before uttering the cry of Spartans.
