Shots were heard all night long in the northeastern city of Korat in Thailand. A young man, identified as a chief warrant officer in the Thai military, stole assault weapons from a military base before reaching the city's commercial center. Entrenched inside, he killed 26 people.
Terrorized, customers were evacuated throughout the night in small groups. The assailant was finally shot after a 17-hour hunt. His motives are still unclear, but the authorities mention "personal problems" related to the sale of a house.
