(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 10 - "We worked three years to allow this 'story' together. It tells what it means to be me all this time and I think it says a lot about what I am as an artist and as a man. As an American who lives in Europe".
Rough, as only adults can, Jim Dine, the giant of American Pop Art and Neo-Dada, 85 springs in June and an infinite collection of happenings, creations, exhibitions, tributes, arrives in Rome with the great staff curated by DanielaLancioni, guest of Palazzo delle Esposizioni who also dedicates a calendar of events until 2/6. On display more than 80 works, from 1959 to 2018, from public and private collections, on both sides of the ocean, more images of his famous happenings, with memories from the voice of Dine himself, and a selection of video interviews, in addition to his aluminum sculptures, the famous Hearts, the room entirely dedicated to Pinocchio (with two specially composed poems), the Black Venus from 2001 and two self-portraits: Head's head from 1959 and the TwoLarge Voices Against Everything diptych from 2016. What changed between one and the other? "Nothing, it's always me. I just grew up and improved, as a man and as an artist," replies Dine, who has been living in Paris for some time and who is already working on a new autumn show in the French capital. "I live here in Europe - he says - not because forced, but because it is a source of inspiration and because I feel comfortable, which I am not in the United States. I don't know why - he puts his hands forward -Today I am freer, I can do what I want. No, not because I'm a great artist, but because I'm old. Also because - he smiles - I don't know if I'm really a great artist. Instead, I'm absolutely certain I'm 85 years old ". He will return to Palazzo delle Esposizioni, on 3/18, for the reading House of Words with Fabrizio Ottaviucci on the piano and DanieleRoccato on the double bass. (HANDLE).
