Municipal: regional press gives voice to citizens

The dailies want to regain control of the politicians to restore confidence.


Sandrine Thomas, editorial director of the Center France group ( La Montagne, L'Yonne Républicaine …), says it over and over again: the municipal elections, “this is our World Cup” .

The regional press has put in place its editorial systems to cover the elections of March 15 and 22. La Voix du Nord began its “mayors' assessment” in September, a review of what may or may not have been achieved during the mandate which is ending in more than 1,500 municipalities. “It is a service to the reader. Even Guinecourt, the smallest village in Pas-de-Calais, has had its results, ” underlines Patrick Jankielewicz, editor-in-chief of the northern daily. “We operate in invisible or peripheral France. If the regional press did not cover the municipal elections in each town and village, readers would not understand it, ” bounces Sandrine Thomas.

The regional press has been less criticized than the national media, because we are well rooted in our territories.
