WhatsApp groups are fun for some smartphone users. Others, however, are quickly annoyed by sprawling chats.

  • WhatsApp groups can be annoying
  • Data protection settings help against invitations
  • Current WhatsApp version must be installed on the smartphone

Who does not know it? Suddenly the cell phone rings. WhatsApp message. "XY added you to a group". First of all, the world is still in order. But within a very short time, the group admin invites other friends and acquaintances to the chat . And they have a lot of fun chatting. If you don't feel like it, you get annoyed quickly.

The group can be muted in WhatsApp. However, this does not protect against further group invitations. How it works? By turning the data protection set screw in the smartphone app. It's best step-by-step.

WhatsApp groups: how to protect yourself from invitations

  • Open the privacy settings on the smartphone
  • Careful: the settings cannot be changed on WhatsApp Web , i.e. on the computer
  • Click on "Account" in the settings
  • Select the item "Data protection"
  • There, look for the "Groups" tab and click on the small arrow
  • Now you decide who can invite you to WhatsApp groups in the future
  • If you select "Everyone", you can be invited as soon as someone has their cell phone number
  • "Contacts" are people whose numbers you yourself have
  • If you want, you can limit the contacts to individual people

WhatsApp groups: update the app

The new feature against group invitations is now gradually being made available to all users who use iOS version 2.19.110.20 or Android beta version 2.19.298. It then appears after the update under the account settings under "Data protection". If this is not the case for you, it is advisable to check your own WhatsApp version. By the way: If WhatsApp on the smartphone is not up to date, you have to update the version.
