An Ibu for back pain quickly: A new study now shows how much and how long you can take pain relievers without endangering your heart.

Whether headache, fever or menstrual pain: Most now take a painkiller with the active ingredient ibuprofen, available over the counter in the pharmacy under the product names Ibuflam, Ibu or Ibuprofen. But a new study now shows that the small pill can have bad consequences.

No more than two Ibuprofen 600

As reported by the portal the hearty soul, a team of researchers from Finland, Montreal and Germany led by scientist Michèle Bally came to the conclusion that the risk of a heart attack increases by 50 percent if you take ibuprofen in a certain dose for a week !

With a daily dose of 1200 milligrams or more ibuprofen for the short period of only 8-30 days , the risk of heart attack of the patients was significantly doubled. This 1200 milligram dose has already been reached by swallowing two Ibuprofen 600 or three Ibu 400 tablets a day .

For comparison: The recommended maximum daily dose is 1200 milligrams of ibuprofen for menstrual pain and 3200 milligrams for fever and other types of pain.

Stiftung Warentest tested pain relievers : That came out in comparison with Paracetamol & Co.

Naproxen and diclofenac also increase the risk of heart attacks

Not only ibuprofen, but also other painkillers from the family of anti-inflammatory painkillers (also called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, NSAIDs) increase the risk of heart attack . These include the drugs naproxen and diclofenac.

With diclofenac, it was 100 milligrams or more daily that significantly increased the risk of infarction over a period of eight to 30 days. For pain relievers with the active ingredient naproxen, the scientists found that 750 milligrams or more are dangerous to the heart .

Will ibuprofen and Co. soon be replaced ? Researchers are developing revolutionary pain relievers .

Ibuprofen 400 or Ibu 600? Who should ask the doctor now?

Pain relievers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac are available over the counter in the pharmacy. However, doctors recommend, especially in the case of previous diseases such as diabetes, liver and kidney diseases, Crohn's disease, asthma, stroke or heart attack - and even if you are pregnant - to discuss taking ibuprofen and similar pain relievers with a doctor beforehand.
