ROME - 35% of Italians show interest in more eco-sustainable foods, with a view to respecting the environment, the workforce and health. In particular, consumers declare that they are also willing to accept a higher price for ingredients that guarantee these values. This is what emerges from a research at European level on food choices that will be protagonists in 2020, carried out by Thermomix and Mintel.

The survey reveals in detail the existence of a greater "sensitivity regarding the emergency produced by climate change, combined with the belief that a change in our habits must take place now". There was also a full adherence among the interviewees to the guidelines on "sustainable diets" indicated by the FAO.

Among the results obtained by researchers also the trend towards a plant-based diet among Europeans of all ages: in Europe, in fact, between 37% and 52% of consumers interviewed avoids eating meat for environmental reasons and about 40% believe that proteins from plants are healthier than animal ones. Finally, it appears that food is intended as a tool for interpersonal and intercultural sharing and new nutritional knowledge is being outlined, with consumers attentive to a healthy, balanced and personalized diet.
