(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, FEBRUARY 19 - The UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, has warned members of the UN Security Council against an increasingly probable escalation of the conflict in the northeastern Middle Eastern country. "It is an imminent danger," he said, referring to recent statements by Turkey and Russia and launching yet another appeal to end the violence and revive a diplomatic and political process.
Meanwhile, Russia, one of the permanent members of the Security Council, has said it is opposed to the UN declaration of fire in Syria.
