A family preparing to celebrate a wedding. At first glance, season 5 of the series "Outlander" seems quite banal. Fans of this fiction adapted from the literary saga of American author Diana Gabaldon know that reality is much more complicated.
"Outlander" is above all the epic love story between Claire, a nurse and then a surgeon in the second half of the 20th century, and Jamie Fraser, a Scottish warrior from the 18th century. To summarize: the beautiful has traveled for the first time in the past thanks to a circle of magic stones. Sent to Scotland two centuries back, the Englishwoman married Jamie and lived with him a great passion before abandoning him in 1746, at the dawn of the bloody battle of Culloden, in order to ensure a better future for their child . Returning in 1948, Claire, who was pregnant, gave birth to a little Brianna and raised her with Frank, her first husband.
Twenty years later, Claire decides to go back to the past in search of the true love of her life. They are now settled in North Carolina, America, where Jamie obtains land from the British government. In season 4, Brianna herself made the trip to the past to join her mother and biological father, followed by Roger, her lover. It was on their nuptials, in 1770, that season 5 began, broadcast on Netflix to the rhythm of its American programming, that is to say one episode per week, posted online every Monday. .
Flamboyance of the story
The first part broadcast last week is therefore devoted to a moment of joy and calm before announcing the coming storm. Jamie, bound by his allegiance to the British crown, will have to lead an expedition in pursuit of rebels who are his own friends. One more test for the Scots and his relatives who have already endured many: torture, rape, separation, miscarriage, theft, injury…
We love this adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's literary fresco, each season of which corresponds to a tome from the saga. Eight volumes have already been released, but the latest from 2014 in the United States, 2016 in France, the impatience of aficionados is becoming more and more pressing with regard to the 9th installment. Rumors announce it for the next autumn, but as for the 6th volume of "Game Of Thrones", we will believe it only when we read it!
In the meantime, season 5 of "Outlander" takes all the ingredients for the success of the previous ones: magnificent sets and costumes, passionate relationships, sexy love scene and tragic twists and turns. While taking liberties with the novels, thus reserving surprises, even for the most loyal readers. The images also permanently dazzle, reinforcing the flamboyance of the story. A tour de force all the more surprising when you know that the series is still filmed in Scotland, even though the intrigue has crossed the Atlantic. We only see fire, and our hearts continue to burn for Claire, Jamie and company.
