(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 23 - Eccentric, reckless stuntman, fervent supporter of the flat Earth theory, designer and builder of do-it-yourself rockets on which he would launch himself at increasing heights, 'Mad' Mike Hughes died in a finished launch evil of a steam rocket, crashing near Bartow, in the southern California desert. Hughes, 64, one day dreamed of being able to get launched into space with a rocket to finally be able to photograph the land without tricks, the entire surface of the earth, thus demonstrating his 'terrapiattista' suit, for which he was financed.
Limousine jump record holder, since 2014 he built and piloted artisan rockets. In his latest fatal launch he intended to exceed 1,500 meters above sea level with a steam rocket, built in his home garden and launched from a ramp by a truck. In the video, the rocket is seen to lose its parachute an instant after launch, thus leaving Hughes and the small carrier crashing to the ground.
