"Koh-Lanta" considered sexist: "Cagole, it is not an insult", answers Alexia Laroche-Joubert

The boss of the company that deals with the adventure game of TF1 rebels against the report of the High Council for Equality on sexism in Fr

"I am pissed off, very pissed off. And she lets it be known. She is Alexia Laroche-Joubert, head of Adventure Line Productions ("Koh-Lanta", "Fort Boyard" ...). Monday morning, she choked on discovering the report of the High Council for Equality on the sexist in France. A document that pins “Les Marseillais” by W9, “Les Anges de la téléréalité” by NRJ 12, “Miss France”, but also “Koh-Lanta”, the 24th edition of which is currently broadcast on TF1.

Why would you want to respond to this report?

ALEXIA LAROCHE-JOUBERT. It is a fabric of approximations and bias which has no statistical validity. We share a family adventure game like Koh-Lanta in prime time and reality TV shows broadcast at 6 p.m. for teens. It is unacceptable to mix everything. For us, it is detrimental. And then, how to make a serious study by analyzing six episodes of the previous season when TF1 broadcast 23 editions, or 290 episodes?

A discussion between two candidates from "Koh-Lanta" highlights the observation that "women are often presented as stupid" ...

Ah really ? Reading the extract chosen by the authors of the report, they understand it backwards. When a candidate who says Cindy has the profile of the blonde a little limited at first, but she is very very intelligent , he admits himself that his judgment was stereotypical. We are also attacked on parity while we are exemplary. Out of eighteen classic editions, there were nine winners. The last two were won by women. And in the last six seasons, there has always been a woman in the final, or even two.

However, the report stresses that the majority of events require physical strength and endurance, favoring men ...

Except that in our games, there are physical parts, endurance, agility but also reflection. And to make certain tests more fair, we adapt the tests to the morphology of the candidates. For example, we lighten the weight of their sandbag. Whereas our Finnish counterparts consider, on the contrary, this choice as unfair. They have the same weight for everyone in order to guarantee equity. What is fair and what is not? Another counter-argument to this report: there were more events won by women in season 2, 3, 9 and 18. And in 61% of the cases, it was a woman who held out the longest on the posts.

Really nothing to blame you for, then?

No. There are only two events at the Olympics where women and men fight together, horse riding and sailing. With us, it's all the time and it helps promote gender equality. If that is not inspiring for kids, I don't understand. We can also talk about the representation of women within the team: the realization is ensured by Corinne Vaillant, there are camerawomen, one of the decoration heads is painter, and, finally, I am at the head of this program.

This year, viewers were offended by the images of Inès' jersey which fell into his butt during the first test. Should we show them?

Some shots could have been more suggestive and we cut them off. I remind you that it is the candidates who choose the material and the shape of their clothes. After the first test, Inès agreed that it was actually not suited to the sportiness of the games. So she put on another. She is of age, it is up to her to decide how she wishes to appear. Who are we to judge? Who are we to say get dressed? When a candidate arrives with a cock mold, he is not asked to put on a wide leggings.

"Koh-Lanta" is also accused of favoring disparagement between candidates ... We could hear "She already passes for a cagole" ...

One, it's not an insult. Two, there are cagoles in the south called cagole between them. Where is the problem? And it is above all not a concern for gender or sexism. There, we mix everything. Like everything in this report. And yet, I have already taken clear positions in favor of women in the CAC 40, in particular to defend Isabelle Kocher ( Editor's note: landed from Engie in February ). I am in favor of women gaining positions of power, that they sit equally on executive boards.

In RMC's “Big Mouths”, you asked to see Marlène Schiappa. Did she hear you?

I also sent him a letter, with a request for an appointment with justification. Koh-Lanta should never have been in this report. I also wrote to Brigitte Grézy ( Editor's note: President of the High Council for Equality ). Now, I would like to be heard. And I will not give up.

In May 2018, a candidate from Koh-Lanta (Candide Renard) accused another candidate (Eddy G) of sexual assault on the set. Before filing a complaint. Where is the investigation?

The investigation is still ongoing. Not being a civil party, we do not have access to the file. I myself have not been auditioned.

This report especially pins "The Marseillais", accused of "reducing women to a body". You launched and produced this program on W9 ...

I'll let Florence Fayard answer ( Editor's note: the current producer ). I haven't had responsibility for four years.

Recently, Georges-Alain of "Star Academy 2", which you produced, dropped a small bomb. For him, "everything was rigged" ...

This is completely untrue. I texted him to explain it to me. He did not adduce any evidence and finally withdrew. I did not understand his story.
