Like every week, here are the favorites of our cinema journalists with, this Wednesday, March 4, a breathtaking comedy which stages two grandpas, and a documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand on women in the world.

WE LOVE

"Papi-Sitter"

Good news for Franck and Catherine: the period of unemployment they knew ended with a contract won on a cruise ship. Except that it's bad. Their daughter Camille has to pass her bac and above all wants to send everything overboard. The couple calls to the rescue Papi André (Gérard Lanvin), former captain of the gendarmerie, with the mission of putting the teenager back on the right track of revisions. It is without foreseeing the return from Mexico of Teddy (Olivier Marchal), Papi bis, who has always favored the party.

In “Le fils à Joe” (2011), Philippe Guillard had first brought Lanvin and Marchal together. Rebelote here, with the stated desire to entertain on a subject that many parents will receive perfectly. The duo plays on velvet to make us laugh and, from time to time, discreetly bring tears to our eyes.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

“Papi-Sitter”, by Philippe Guillard, with Gérard Lanvin, Olivier Marchal, Camille Aguilar… 1h37.

WE LOVE A LOT

"Woman"

What does being a woman in 2020 mean? From France to Tibet, via Iraq, Brazil or India, "Woman", a French documentary by Anastasia Mikova and Yann Arthus-Bertrand, gives the floor to around 100 women from fifty countries. In front of the camera, they recount their experiences of motherhood, love, violence, but also evoke their relationship to their body or to beauty.

Certain passages (on excision, rape of war, women burned with acid…) are harsh, but the film is enamelled with luminous words. Like those of Eglantine Emeyé, who tells of her unconditional love for her autistic son ... Carried by sublime images, these intimate and courageous words paint in the end a poignant kaleidoscopic portrait of the feminine condition in the world.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

"Woman", French documentary by Anastasia Mikova and Yann Arthus-Bertrand. 1:48.

" The communion "

Daniel, 20, is a devout Catholic who dreams of doing his seminary. Impossible, because he has a locker. The young man finally leaves the detention center and is preparing to become a carpenter in the countryside. But once there, he chooses to pass himself off as a young priest, Father Tomasj, who replaces the village priest at short notice ... There are movie looks that haunt you for a long time. This is the case of Bartosz Bielenia, the young Pole who plays Daniel in this story inspired by the true story of a young "false" priest.

We have no trouble letting ourselves be seduced by this father Tomasj, charismatic as hell, inspired and inspiring, who will waver a community traumatized by a recent drama. The staging is entirely at the service of this fascinating character, capable of being gentle like a lamb or ultra-violent. Striking drama, "La Communion" was chosen to represent Poland at the Oscars last February.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 4/5

“La Communion”, a Polish drama by Jan Komasa, with Bartosz Bielenia, Eliza Rycembel, Aleksandra Konieczna… 1h58.

"Forward"

Elves, unicorns, magic, emotion, effective action scenes ... and then funny ideas. Pixar studios ("Toy Story", "The Incredibles" ...) come back with an animated film that is not entirely convincing. "En avant" features Ian and Barley, two elven brothers who live in a suburb populated by dragons and centaurs. When they are adolescents, their mother gives them a letter from their deceased father: the latter gives them a stick which will allow them, thanks to a spell, to revive him for a day. But Ian misses his magic trick and only his father's legs appear.

Ian and Barley then leave, aboard their van, to seek help ... The spectator has something to be confused by the unsightly graphics of the characters (elves with gray-blue skin and pink ears, unicorns with teeth long, a lioness with horns, wings and a scorpion tail ...) and by the vision of these two brothers who are walking around in pants that work (their father half come back to life, therefore). Too bad because the film is rhythmic and its message on mourning and brotherhood very pretty.

EDITOR'S NOTE: 2.5 / 5

"En avant", a fantastic animated film by Dan Scanton. 1:40. From 6 years old.
