Since the spread of the covid-19 virus on the territory, the French have rushed on protective masks and hydroalcoholic gels, and the prices of these products have soared in certain points of sale.
"We will not accept any speculation on the coronavirus epidemic" said the minister after a meeting with business representatives in Bercy, saying that price doublings or triplings have been noted in recent days on hydroalcoholic gels.
The Directorate General for the Repression of Fraud (DGCCRF) will investigate this surge in prices, announced Bruno Le Maire. If irregularities are found, the government can decide to regulate the selling price of masks and hydroalcoholic gels, said the minister. "I am ready with a draft decree" allowing this price framework, he said.
In addition, Bruno Le Maire indicated that he would bring together the actors of large distribution in the coming days, in order to ensure that essential consumer goods can continue to be accessible in stores.
He therefore called on consumers not to rush into shopping centers for fear of the appearance of shortages due to the coronavirus.
