The new production of Manon , Massenet, the second of which served as the first due to the cancellation of the latter, we were especially waiting for a vocal party. We were served, as regards the Chevalier des Grieux by Benjamin Bernheim. The French tenor had already seduced us with his musicality in Alfredo de La Traviata , but we noted a little Italian timbre. This is no longer a drawback at all in French opera, where not only its vocal color, but also its language - one would even be tempted to say its phonation - are ideally in their place. The style is perfect, the conduct of the sentence admirable, and above all the mastery of the confusing nuances: his air " By closing your eyes ", whispered while being perfectly projected in the great space of Bastille, will remain a moment of grace, completed by the lyricism of " Ah! Flee sweet image ”, with an intensity as powerful as it is expertly measured.
One and a half copies, Ludovic Tézier, almost over-distributed in Lescaut, has no harm
