At least 10,000 people called 107 since last Sunday to warn about possible cases of coronavirus and request information about the disease that broke out in China and already affects 8 people in Argentina.

Of the total communications, 77 were from people with symptoms such as fever.

Is that the official recommendation is to call 107 in cases of fever, the appearance of cough, sore throat, or respiratory problems may be symptoms of coronavirus.

"The health system of the City of Buenos Aires is answering more than 2,000 calls per day on line 107, of the SAME, the specialized call center where information is provided to neighbors and answers to all questions about the coronavirus," officially reported.

Through this line, people can contact a group of epidemiologists who provide answers to any concerns about COVID-19, as the virus is known technically.

The procedure applied by professionals in charge of 107 also includes the request for a series of data that also tries to determine if potential patients made trips in the last days to risk areas, such as Italy, or if they were in contact with someone who had already been listed as a suspected case or diagnosed with coronavirus infection.

As detailed, on Sunday, March 1, there were 1,637 communications; on Monday two, 1,496; on Tuesday 3, 1,688; Wednesday 4, 1,988 and Thursday 5, 2,089. Thus, if the trend is projected, the total would amount to 10,000 in just six days.

"There are many calls but it is good for people to call to consult," said the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

The president visited on Saturday the offices where the 107 works with the Minister of Health of the City, Fernán Quirós. "The truth is that we anticipated, we had started with all the preparation in advance, we announced it last week, before having the first cases," he said about the services of that call center.

Finally, he said that " we are attending each case and each of the consultations, working together with the national government ."
