Coronavirus: work stoppage for parents not always suitable

2020-03-10T16:16:30.564Z

With the epidemic, some employees are forced to stop work to look after their children.

In the French departments most affected by the coronavirus, where schools are closed for 15 days, such as Haut-Rhin and Oise, employees who have not found a plan B to care for their child, or do not are not able to telecommute, can stop work. But the Medef departmental branches in the Haut-Rhin and the Oise are already alerting to the lack of flexibility of this measure for employees and businesses.

Announced on February 28 by the Minister of Labor, this special arrest device was put in place on March 4 by the government as part of measures to limit the spread of the virus. It concerns employees with children under the age of 16 admitted or educated in closed establishments.

Concretely, the parent concerned must contact his employer so that he can fill out a form, accessible on the dedicated website "declare.ameli.fr", leading to the issuance of a work stoppage and the payment of "Daily sickness benefits for isolation". The work stoppage is issued for a period of 14 calendar days from the date on which the declared cessation of activity begins.

Only one parent can be issued a work stoppage

Health Insurance specifies that “ only one parent (or holder of parental authority) may be granted a sick leave . However, in practice, this system is not very suitable for the lives of employees in companies. " Employed parents who would like to cannot share custody of their children, " we note to Medef de l'Oise, which is asking for more flexibility.

It is also problematic for divorced couples who take care of their children every other week, insofar as it is a 14 days incompressible leave. " We brought it up with Medicare. Since Monday, many companies have been contacting us on this subject, ”we add to Medef 60. In the Haut-Rhin department, where 127,000 children have to stay at home for two weeks, the problem also arises, says T we at Medef Alsace.

When contacted, Health Insurance ensures that “ for divorced parents, this is completely planned and possible. The introductory text will be modified to clarify all of this. There is no need for flexibility, it is sufficient that the work stoppage is completed for each parent . ” On Tuesday, the agency was unable to say how many such arrests had been recorded.
