(ANSA) - MANDALAY, MAR 12 - On board a military plane, the remains of alleged US airmen who died in combat in Myanmar during the Second World War were repatriated today.
Myanmar was a key battleground between the Allies and Japan during the Second World War. The remains repatriated today are believed to be those of some of the settemilitaries who were aboard a B-25G plane shot down in February 1944 in the north of Salingyi. The repatriation occurred from Mandalay airport, where a ceremony was held in honor of the missing soldiers, while American soldiers with white gloves carried the baredraps in the American flag on a C-17 military plane.
The remains will be taken over for further analysis in a Hawaii laboratory.
