Many people rely on chemical cleaners from the drugstore - and while some of them also do a good job, there are cheaper and more environmentally friendly ways to clean your household. This is where baking soda comes in.
It is a completely natural and non-toxic product that has been known since ancient times and was used for ritual cleaning.

What is baking soda and where does it come from?
Since natural deposits only exist in isolated deposits, baking soda is mainly obtained from natural table salt . The chlorine is replaced by carbonate . It is also found in some mineral waters and medicinal springs.
The chemical name of baking soda is sodium bicarbonate , and it is also known as sodium bicarbonate, food soda, baking soda or bicarbonate soda. The best-known brands for household baking soda are Kaiser Natron and Bullrich-Salz. You can usually find it in the supermarket in the baked goods department .
It is not to be confused with the very similar soda and even less with the harmful sodium hydroxide solution or the caustic soda.

Soda as a household cleaning agent
- Oven : After baking is before baking - that's why the oven should always be sparkling clean. Soda is the perfect remedy here: spread the powder over the inside of the walls of the oven and spray a little water on it. - Joints : Baking soda also has an effect in the bathroom - especially if the joints are dirty. Therefore, mix three tablespoons of soda powder, a tablespoon of water and a teaspoon of vinegar essence together and rub the paste on the affected areas with a brush. - Teflon pans : The non-stick coating of a Teflon pan can be cleaned very carefully with baking soda - but only if it has not yet been scratched. To do this, boil the pan with a little baking soda and water and let the mixture soak in overnight. The next day the contents come off and the pan is wiped off with a soft cloth. - Ceramic hob : Two tablespoons of baking soda, a dash of water and a little vinegar - you have mixed the perfect paste together to clean your ceramic hob. Spread the mass on the hob with a rag and give the whole thing five minutes to soak. To increase the effect, you can add another shot of vinegar. - Silver : Whether jewelry or cutlery - silver can be cleaned with the help of baking soda. To do this, fill a vessel with water that has been heated to at least 60 degrees and add five tablespoons of salt and five tablespoons of baking soda . Soda as an odor neutralizer
The home remedy not only ensures cleanliness - it also sells musty smells. That is why baking soda is sometimes only used to neutralize odors. For example with towels: Do you sometimes ask yourself why they still stink after washing? This can have various reasons. But thanks to baking soda, the bad thing is over. Just put a little of it in the detergent during the next wash cycle, switch to 60 degrees and the towels will smell again.
Pest control with baking soda
When cockroaches roam around the house, it not only causes horror among the residents - the little animals can also transmit diseases. So you should use soda to get them to flee. To do this, mix the home remedy in equal parts with sugar and spread the powder around the house. The cockroaches are attracted by the sugar and cost it - the baking soda, on the other hand, produces gases that the pests cannot tolerate and lead to death.
