A British woman felt the consequences of the corona virus in a completely different way: instead of getting infected, she lost a lot of money because of the spread in Italy.

  • An English woman lost hands from euros due to the corona virus .
  • She actually wanted to spend the money on a vacation.
  • Your experience could not be an isolated case.

When 38-year-old Emma W. booked a romantic three-day trip to Venice for herself and her partner in December 2019, she had no idea that a few months later the corona virus would keep the whole of Europe in suspense. Italy in particular is particularly affected, which is why the single mother ultimately decided to cancel her planned stay. For accommodation, flight and parking at the airport, she paid around 550 euros.

Mother loses hundreds of euros - reimbursement is not possible

The trip was intended as a birthday present for Emma's partner. They wanted to leave together on February 28, but in the end the coronavirus * thwarted their plans. Since the two are self-employed, they did not want to risk being sent to quarantine after their stay. According to the young mother's calculations, that would cost her several thousand euros in salary.

However, Emma W. has to accept losses of money , because the majority of her money will not be refunded . This shocked the English woman, who had to work hard to finance her trip: "It was disastrous. I am a single mother and I worked very hard to save the money for the trip. I paid everything as a gift for my partner, because it was his birthday in January. We have small children and we don't want to infect other people. Our children have friends who have health problems. "

That is why the young mother did not get her money back

Emma W. had booked the flight with Ryanair . However, the company would only have reimbursed money if the flight had been completely canceled . Since the plane took off normally, the young mother never saw a cent again.

There would also have been hope of a refund if the state had warned against entering Venice. At the end of February, however, there was still no travel warning , so the couple had no luck here either .

The newspaper therefore quotes experts who, particularly with regard to the corona virus, expressly point out that they are well prepared for a travel cancellation. Otherwise, you may face severe fines.
