The Minister of Labor acted Thursday evening the extension of one month of unemployment benefit rights for job seekers arriving at the end of rights in March.

In exceptional situation, exceptional measure. The government announced Thursday that it will extend unemployment benefit rights for jobseekers who are running out of rights during the month of March. There is indeed a particular situation of the unemployed who are reaching the end of their rights now. No one could have foreseen this crisis. Concretely, a person whose rights to unemployment benefit expired in March will benefit from an additional month so that he does not experience " drama ", said the minister. In this sense, the persons concerned will receive the same amounts of compensation. Indeed, the current confinement period, due to the coronavirus epidemic, does not allow them to have prospects to quickly find employment. The extension will be done automatically by Pôle emploi and will be effective for payments made from the beginning of April. However, like every month, job seekers will have to update themselves, ”said Pôle emploi on Thursday.

The public establishment detailed the public concerned by this " extension ". These are all job seekers who receive unemployment benefit who are coming to the end of their entitlement, and this “ whether they are seasonal, temporary or intermittent in the entertainment industry ”. Note that for the latter this will result in a postponement of the " anniversary date " at the end of the confinement period. The system also concerns " job seekers who no longer have any open rights and those who may have reworked during the benefit period, and who could therefore extend the duration of their right to unemployment benefit ". For them, in the same way, recharging will be done at the end of the confinement period. Finally, there are the beneficiaries of the Specific Solidarity Allowance, the renewal of which takes place in March.

" The reform was designed in a context that has nothing to do with the one we know today, " said the Minister of Labor at the microphone of Jean-Jacques Bourdin. In this sense, it has been postponed to September 1. Concretely, this second part of the unemployment insurance reform wanted by Emmanuel Macron provides for a tightening of the calculation of the daily reference wage (SJR) which serves as the basis for defining the amount of the return to work allowance (ARE) from which compensated job seekers benefit.
