In the past 24 hours, 78 people have died after contracting SARS-CoV-2. There were 108 victims the day before.

Continuously increasing since Monday, the number of people who died every day in France due to the Covid-19 has decreased for the first time this week. According to figures released Friday evening by Jérôme Salomon, the Director General of Health, the coronavirus epidemic has killed 78 people in the past 24 hours, compared to 108 Thursday and 89 Wednesday. A total of 450 people lost their lives after being infected.

During his traditional daily press briefing, Jérôme Salomon also announced that 5,226 patients were hospitalized, 1,297 of them being in intensive care. "Half of the resuscitation patients are under 60 years old" recalled the Director General of Health, Jérôme Salomon. At the same time, nearly 1,600 patients have left hospitals and are considered to be cured.

"Do not go on weekends"

Now, more than 12,600 French people have tested positive for coronavirus (12,612 very precisely). In the past 24 hours, 1,612 new cases have been recorded, a figure slightly lower than the previous day (1,861).

While the debate around a possible tightening of the containment continues, Jérôme Salomon acknowledged that its extension was a “possibility” and once again recalled the importance of respecting the measures in force. And to underline an obviousness: “It is Friday evening, do not leave on weekends. "

In addition, Prof. Salomon mentioned “a resurgence of cases of anosmia” reported by the National ENT Council: it is a “sudden disappearance of smell without nasal obstruction and which can occur in isolation” , he said. In this case, "you must call your doctor and avoid self-medication without specialist advice".
