Look at this elegant man, with a small mustache, filmed at the end of his life on the Forum in Rome, at the Villa Medici, in his library, his "studiolo", and who talks about happiness, it is André Chastel (1912- 1990). He is then the best of Renaissance specialists, the great defender of heritage, the apostle so little followed by the teaching of art history in high schools and colleges, he is able to transform himself into a journalist and as an editorial writer to make himself heard better, he is a professor at the Collège de France, a member of the Institute, he plays with his cat who slides between books. He smiles in the light, explains why he cherishes these perfect moments in the scents of Italy. For an hour, accessible on the Louvre website, he talks about his passions. In particular, he tells how the enthusiastic student he was put his vocation into reality during the months he spent in Germany in a prison camp.
