Are you bored at home? The anxieties take over you? Maybe you try your hand at writing? "Writing allows you to disconnect and connect at the same time," says author Eshkol Nebo, who also conducts writing workshops. "You disconnect from your everyday reality, but also connect to something deep within you and look for a way to get outside."

According to Nevo, since the outbreak of the Corona crisis, he has delved deeper into writing a book he has been working on for the past year. "I find it good and healthy for me to spend a few hours a day in the imaginary districts. After all, our imagination has no boundaries and no closure can be made about it."

How do we approach writing if we haven't experienced it before?

"Writing does not require experience, it requires passion and time. And we seem to have plenty of both right now. Anyone can open a piece of writing and write. The first thing to suspend is self-criticism. There is no 'right' way to write. There are no rules and no rules. By the way, I love teaching writing, the biggest challenge for a writing workshop instructor is not to hurt the writer's natural voice, but just to try to perfect it.

"To be more practical, then you can start with the following exercise: Write a loaded and meaningful childhood memory that you have, and add at least one detail that wasn't in reality and you might want to have. Try to write in detail, with as many voices, tastes and smells as possible."

According to Nevo, "boredom is not really a bad thing because boredom gives rise to a work. The empty space wants to be filled with something, and then it is filled with words. In addition, many people are dealing with loneliness these days, and writing is also a great tool in this regard. In the social networks we have always wanted to join and have not had time in. In these settings we can express ourselves.

"Writing is great these days because it allows you to be active. There has been something very passive about us over the last few weeks. We are only responding to the guidelines that land on us. Writing makes you active. You can write an imaginary world and respond to what happens, you become a creator."

For 13 years, Navo has been conducting writing workshops with Orit Gidley. "We discovered that writing is a great tool for social change, for building relationships between people, for opening hearts, and for promoting tolerance and attention in Israeli society," he says. "As the Corona crisis worsened, we did not know how we could deliver workshops when it was forbidden to congregate, and then we decided to have them online, in a system called 'Zoom,' as in universities and schools. In such an online class, you see people and hear them, and texts can pass.

"Because of demand, we opened another workshop online with author Reut Eckstein Blum. It includes five sessions and one of which I will also attend. We came to all kinds of inquiries from people who went into isolation or from people climbing the walls and thought it was a good idea for them to write. The students in our writing workshops Need writing during this time. We made the move to Online Lane with a certain concern, but the reactions indicate that people yearn for group activity and creativity. "

Nebo has one more tip for you: "Everything I said about writing is also true of reading. True, right now you can't travel abroad and you can't travel but you can open a book and sail our imagination everywhere."
