The director and music producer today offers a selection of songs from the American guitarist and singer, former member of Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

In his new book, Let's See What Can Be Done (good title for these times), Lorrie Moore brings together his articles, about literature about everything but also about politics, music, film or television ( The Wire ), written during the last 35 years . The article that closes the book is a celebration of his beloved Stephen Stills.

I have been following Stills since I was with Neil Young in Buffalo Springfield and the first LP I ever bought was Crosby, Stills & Nash . This album has accompanied me all my life, as the most faithful of friends and even when I listen to it I have the feeling that it was recorded yesterday. Or tomorrow.

MORE INFORMATION

  • Jazzists go to the movies
  • Quarantine with the disk that never existed

I could make 50 selections of songs by Stills, but as it had to be specified, I decided to start with his 'Suite: Judy Blue Eyes' and go to the present day with The Rides, the group that Stills leads with the virtuous guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

In between are pieces of his masterful Manassas and his sequel Manassas Pieces , as good as the first. Songs with David Crosby and Graham Nash, and also with Neil Young, and even a jam with Jimi Hendrix, passing through his collaboration with Eric Clapton on his first solo album or the one he performed with Al Kooper in the legendary Super Session . Because it should not be forgotten that Stills, in addition to being a singer-songwriter and band leader, is one of the greats of rock guitar.
