Whether it's Hollywood blockbusters or world-famous TV series, the beautiful landscapes, roads and architecture of the island of Ireland always shine on the big and small screen and on any other device of the digital age.

Thanks to the many TV channels and online streaming services, you don't need to leave your living room to stay connected to the Emerald Isle and admire those incredible panoramas that have fascinated directors and producers from all over the world.

Those who cannot forget the landscapes of the Wild Atlantic Way, for example, have only to choose a film from the Star Wars saga, in which the otherworldly scenery of the island of Skellig Michael off the coast of County Kerry has become one of the protagonists of the intergalactic saga.

Skellig Michael, with its characteristic stone beehive huts and its breathtaking beauty, was the backdrop for Luke Skywalker's return to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Together with other locations along the Wild Atlantic Way, the island then played an even more important role in the subsequent episode The Last Jedi. Also shot on the Wild Atlantic Way is The Guard, the most successful Irish independent film ever, set in the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking) village of Barna in Connemara, County Galway.
Then there is the huge success of Brooklyn, starring Saoirse Ronan, which is a real journey along the famous golden beaches of Curracloe Beach in Ireland's Ancient East but above all in the deepest heart of the history of Irish emigration.

Braveheart also offers wonderful views of Ireland. Many of the film's most important battle scenes were filmed at Trim Castle in County Meath, while Dracula Untold shows famous Northern Ireland sights including the Giant's Causeway, the neoclassical home of Mount Stewart and the hills above Belfast.

Turning to the small screen, it is inevitable that the first thought goes to the Game of Thrones. Anyone who has lost the most important and famous series in the history of television can now go back and immerse themselves in the non-stop vision of the show's eight seasons.

Game of Thrones picks up an infinite and unforgettable variety of locations in Northern Ireland; places such as Carnlough Harbor (the Braavos Canal) and the Glens of Antrim in the County of Antrim and Castle Ward in the County of Down exude mystery and fantasy atmosphere and recreate the perfect medieval world of the series.

And for those who have already seen the series, there is always the possibility to deepen the topic admiring online the gigantic Tapestry of Swords, 80 meters of Bayeux-style fabric. Here you can study the scenes in detail and discover the true locations of the series
