The United Kingdom counted this Friday 847 additional deaths in the hospital of patients affected by the new coronavirus, a balance sheet close to that of the day before (+ 861 deaths), which brings to 14 576 the total number of victims of Covid- 19 in the country.
The number of people tested positive reached a total of 108,692, an increase of 5,599 compared to the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health.
As of 9am 17 April, 438,991 tests have concluded, with 21,328 tests on 16 April.

The figures published daily by the British health authorities only include the deaths in the hospital of patients tested positive, a method criticized because it does not include deaths in retirement homes and thus mitigates the real impact of the pandemic.
Containment extended for at least three weeks
The British government decided on Thursday to extend the containment introduced since March 23 by at least three weeks to slow the epidemic.
As some European countries begin to prepare for the end of containment, the British government remains almost silent on its strategy in this regard.

Foreign Minister Dominic Raab, who is replacing Prime Minister Boris Johnson after recovering from infection, said on Thursday that it would be "irresponsible" to decide on a release schedule. He simply mentioned the possibility of "softening" the system in certain areas and "strengthening" in others.
