Grand prizes with the bare minimum of people in the paddock, with no public or journalists except those necessary for the dissemination of TV images. But also two races concentrated on a circuit, in the same or in several consecutive weekends. For MotoGp and Formula 1, the top motor sports, what before the coronavirus emergency would have been unthinkable becomes an object of reflection and debate, in an attempt to save what remains of the respective seasons. "I don't like racing without an audience, but if it's the only way to start again ...", says Maverick Vinales, Valentino Rossi's teammate at Yamaha with realism.
And if on one hand Carmelo Ezpeleta, 'great boss' of Dorna, speaking of the world championship, he designs three scenarios, "the most optimistic" of which foresees the possibility "to start racing in Brno in August", on the other the organizers of the GP of British F1, at Silverstone, are running to host two races in a row.
In the second scenario proposed by Ezpeleta, in a conversation with the issuer Onda Cero, the start is evaluated after the summer: "There would be between 10 and 12 grand prizes, evaluating from time to time, based on local provisions, if with or without audience. " All between "October, November and December. But it could also be an eight-race world championship". The worst-case scenario envisages "concentrating the whole season on two or three circuits", which could be the Spanish homologated ones (Jerez, Montmelo, Aragón and Ricardo Tormo). As for the eventuality that the World Cup won't be contested, Ezpeleta excludes it, "at the moment".
In an interview with 'As', the manager instead talks about the safety protocol being studied in collaboration with the national sports authorities and various laboratories. "We have already commissioned, through a company owned by Bridgepoint (an English fund that holds Dorna, ed.), The possibility of performing 10,000 coronavirus tests, to monitor the entire MotoGP family before and after each day," explained Ezpeleta.
As for the teams "they have to say how many people they consider essential. The latest numbers spoke of 40 for the officers in MotoGP and 25 for the satellite teams, considering that some would have worked for both, but they are not yet defined".
