The President of the Republic wants Europe to reduce its "dependence on the rest of the world". Emmanuel Macron spoke at the end of the European summit, which was held by videoconference on Thursday.
The Head of State spoke in particular on the economic dependence of Europe, more visible since the Coronavirus crisis, and the difficulties of supplying products which have become essential.
Without making an announcement, the president welcomed "a consensus" emerging in Europe "to go further stronger" on "economic, industrial, military sovereignty". Emmanuel Macron wants the European Union to rethink its “production chains” over time.
