Failing to participate in the usual ceremonies, the Italians celebrated Liberation Day from their balconies on Saturday. On the occasion of this date which marks the liberation of Milan, Turin and Genoa in 1945, thousands of Italians sang their national anthem and the song of the Partisans "Bella Ciao", marked on the left.

In Rome, fighter planes have dropped the colors of the Italian flag over the deserted streets of the capital. Italian President Sergio Mattarella attended a small committee ceremony during which he laid a wreath at the grave of the unknown soldier.
