Karla Puch is a young student of Communication Sciences at the Autonomous University of Yucatan. To pay for her studies, the 22-year-old student provides her services as a photographer at weddings and social events in Kanasín, a city about five kilometers from Mérida, the Yucatecan capital, in southeastern Mexico. But the health contingency for the covid-19 has prevented him from continuing to take photos, so he made a montage of a wedding with his toys.

The series of 55 photographs was published on Facebook, where it has been shared more than 44,000 times in the first 36 hours after its publication. "I did it without a purpose, but to practice my photography a little," Puch tells Verne , by phone. The session required a two-day job outside the photographer's house

Puch found his toys during the contingency days, so he planned to do this montage with his mother and sister, who sewed and embroidered the costumes by hand. "Weddings here are usually very traditional, so I wanted it to be in that style," he says. She dressed Barbie and the dolls in small suits, which is the typical costume worn by the Mayan communities in Yucatan and which are traditionally embroidered in cross stitch. For Action Man (the groom) and the rest of the attendees, they were dressed in small Filipinos, guayaberas and espadrilles for the shoes.

But it was not just a montage of a ceremony where Thanos (the character of the Avengers saga ) was the priest. There was also a time for the party and for Barbie to throw the bouquet. "The ribbon dance is very traditional and the bride and groom cross each other to form a multi-colored ribbon," he says.

Puch and her family have Mayan origins and the student confesses that she is very proud of her roots. "My parents speak Mayan and although I don't speak it well, I really like customs, clothing and music," he says. Although his studies are paused due to the health contingency, Puch has dedicated his thesis to the social imaginary of natives and migrants in his city, Kanasín. "I hope to qualify in a couple of months, if the quarantine does not last long," he says.

The Yucatecan photographer plans to continue taking photographs and soon will upload to her social networks a video with the process to make this montage, which includes the preparation of traditional garments for the wedding between Barbie and Action Man.
