Due to the severe crisis in nursing homes, Prof. Gamzo has been appointed to the post by outgoing Minister of Health Yaakov Litzman, who recently announced that he wants to leave for the position of Minister of Construction and Housing. About two weeks ago, Professor Gamzo presented his conclusions, arguing, among other things, that "one central headquarters for crisis management" must be established. So far, of the 229 deceased in Israel, over 70 have come from nursing homes and sheltered housing.

We have requested funding for the huge costs that nursing homes have out of pocket for the past two months and some even before collapse and in response we received promises when not even a single shekel passed us. Unfortunately, nursing homes and the elderly do not really care about the state when it seems that even the arrival of Professor Gamzo was a media spin, there is no long-term planning here and no real concern for the well-being of nursing homes and the elderly they care for. " 

Ozeri added: "We call for the establishment of a state commission of inquiry to investigate the failures of the Ministry of Health and the State in addressing the Corona crisis in nursing homes because we seem to be going to a catastrophe."

The Ministry of Health has not yet commented on the matter.
