When the Biennale de Lyon, the largest of the French art biennials, announced that it would postpone its edition from autumn 2021 to autumn 2022, it threw a chill on the art world. Since Thursday evening, the social networks of art lovers are sorry for this missed appointment.
Especially since the two guest curators of this 16th Lyon edition are respected figures on the historical and contemporary scene, the Lebanese Sam Bardaouil and the German Till Fellrath who created the curatorial platform Art Reoriented in Munich and New York: presented the pacifist video by artist Akram Zaatari at the Lebanese pavilion of the 55th Venice Biennale at the Arsenal in 2013; they were curators of the United Arab Emirates pavilion at the 2019 Biennale, with Passage , a video of the Emirati poet and filmmaker Nujoom Alghanem. These pioneers brought a completely new exhibition, Rupture, War, and Surrealism in Egypt (1938-1948) , to the Center Pompidou in 2016.
