Deconfinement: what awaits schoolchildren and their parents for this dotted comeback

There is no question of finding full classrooms this Monday. As with the lifting of confinement, the return to school will be very gradual. In total, only 1.5 million of the 6.7 million French schoolchildren will return to kindergarten and elementary school this week.

The following are concerned, as a priority: children in a large section, in CP, CM2, with disabilities, as well as the children of nursing staff and dropouts, or in the process of dropping out. But they can wait until Monday evening, at least, to prepare their schoolbag.

This May 11, it will be in fact the teachers who will return to school - or rather, pre-school - in "almost 86%" of the 50,500 schools in France, said Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer in the Sunday newspaper. The remaining 14% of schools will reopen before the end of May, he guaranteed.

Masks for teachers

Almost half of the teachers in the area will return to schools to welcome students. As for the others, they will continue the distance courses for the children still at home. Sports, health, culture and civic activities “outside of school” will also be offered by the municipalities.

In class, everything will be reorganized so as to avoid any contact. There will be no more than 15 students per room in elementary school, and a maximum of 10 in kindergarten. They will all be separated by one meter, and supervised by personnel protected by masks. Children will be encouraged to wash their hands frequently. For recreations, they will be separated by levels and contact games will be prohibited.

A week later, it will be the sixth and fifth years of schooling in green departments to gradually resume classes. For them, wearing a mask will be compulsory if it is impossible to distance them physically. The return of the fourth, third and high school students, who will still have to study at home, will be examined at the end of May.

Vigilance for the little ones

Despite these multiple precautions, teachers' unions remain worried about the risk of contamination. In a petition that has more than 58,000 signatories, the Snuipp-FSU unions, the SE-Unsa and the SGEN-CFDT asked in particular that the week of May 11 to 15 be a pre-entry preparation for teachers. They also demanded that the number of pupils be limited to 10 per class in elementary school, "and much less in kindergarten".

As for SUD education, we denounce the government's "improvisation", and we are worried about the risks of contamination with the little ones. "For example, nothing is planned if a child is injured or sad and seeks comfort from the teacher, which however happens several times a day under normal circumstances", denounces the union in a press release, where he announced that he had immediately appealed to the Council of State. His goal ? Urge the administration to disseminate formal recommendations to preserve the safety and health of the teaching staff.
