Atp President: "We want to remain optimistic" (ANSA)

"Quitting now would not be wise, nobody knows what will happen. We want to remain optimistic." Andrea Gaudenzi said it in an interview published by Supertennis. At the moment the circuit stop is until July 12: the first dead line to decide the future of what remains of the season has been set for mid-May, as Gaudenzi himself confirms: "At the moment there are only hypothetical scenarios ahead of us and that's why we haven't decided yet. Among the options there could be closed doors, as well as various choices to make regarding the restrictions for travelers. We gave ourselves May 15th as the deadline for the post Wimbledon tournaments in July and June 1st to decide on the appointments for August. We have a window that goes from six to eight weeks to decide whether or not to play a tournament, no more. But, I repeat I want to be optimistic. "
Singular what is happening in Canada regarding the summer events dedicated to tennis. In recent weeks, the organization of the Rogers Cup had definitively canceled the Montreal Wta Premier tournament for 2020, postponing it to the next year with an unchanged venue (The Rogers Cup every year reverses the venues for the ATP and WTA tournaments between Toronto and Montreal). Tennis Canada, however, canceled all events until August 31 except for the Atp Rogers Cup, the Masters 1000 scheduled for Toronto. The possibility therefore remains open to have at least the men's tournament scheduled in Toronto from 7 to 16 August. The fate of the US Open scheduled for the end of August is to be decided. It remains to be seen whether the Roland Garros will be rescheduled from 27 September to 11 October, therefore moved another week compared to the dates initially communicated, in agreement with ATP, WTA and ITF to make room for the red clay season which also includes the Internazionali BNL d'Italia.
