The eleventh edition of the National Bicycle Day is held on Sunday, May 10, an appointment sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment in 2010 and which falls every second Sunday in May to raise awareness on the use of the bicycle as a sustainable and safe means of travel. In recalling this, the secretariat of the Apennine Bike Tour stresses that "Phase 2 of the Covid-19 virus emergency highlights how the bicycle is the most suitable means of transport to encourage. In the May Decree there are incentives for gentle mobility in order to avoid congestion of traffic in urban centers: the allocation of 125 million euros as a bonus for the purchase of bicycles is planned by the Ministry of the Environment, a subsidy designed in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, which provides for up to 500 euros of funding for the purchase of bikes, electric bikes and scooters ".

National Bicycle Day "is a great opportunity to underline the importance of using the bike, which allows you to move safely while keeping your distance - comments Enrico Della Torre, general manager of Vivi Appennino -, but at the same time it is also a reason for keep the attention high on the national cycle-route system, starting from that of the Apennines that connect the country from north to south. Phase 2 of the emergency is in fact leading to an increase in outdoor trips in the Apennine areas and towards the second houses - Della Torre underlines -: it is an opportunity to rediscover protected areas rich in history and nature, to the most unknown ". For each exit, the note explains, it is necessary to be equipped with the self-declaration model for travel, updated on the basis of the latest measures adopted to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The World Bicycle Day, established by the UN, is expected for June 3.

The Italian Union for Sport for All (Uisp) relaunches social sport and environmental sustainability, in compliance with the current provisions against coronavirus: on May 10, on the occasion of the 11th National Bicycle Day, the 35th edition of Bicincittà takes place. From 12 to 13, Aosta and Messina will open the direct Facebook dedicated to Bicincittà, on the national Uisp page. It will be, explains a note, a virtual Giro d'Italia with the theme of urban mobility and cycling at the center, with connections from various cities, from North to South Italy. Roberto Morassut, Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Environment, will participate together with Vincenzo Manco, national president of Uisp. With various guests, we will talk about city experiences on active lifestyles and use of the bike for clean mobility. "The cycle paths will increasingly represent real alternative mobility infrastructures, on which the public policies of our country will have to focus - emphasizes the Uisp -. It is urgent to intervene starting from this period of emergency and social distancing".
