The anti-cheat software from "Valorant" is criticized by the players. Riot Games has now responded and made changes.

  • The shooter "Valorant" is the new game from the "League of Legends" developer Riot Games.
  • The anti-cheat software from Riot is criticized by gamers because the program intervenes deeply in the operating systems and in some cases also failed the hardware drivers.
  • Developer Riot Games has now released a hotfix and adapted the program.

"Valorant": Anti-cheat software causes hardware problems

The new shooter from Riot Games, "Valorant" *, has recently annoyed many people because the anti-cheat software was perceived as a clumsy attempt to act against cheaters. Riot Games use the anti-cheat program Vanguard for "Valorant". Now that reports of players about hardware failures have surfaced, the software has come under fire again.

On Reddit, many users have shared their experience with Vanguard. The anti-cheat program is therefore extremely aggressive and switches off suddenly installed drivers for incomprehensible reasons. With some PCs, this means that the mouse, keyboard and sometimes the cooler suddenly stop working .

The developers have now acted and released a hotfix to alleviate this problem. Accordingly, most of the previously blocked should now work.

"Valorant": Vanguard software has been criticized for a lack of data protection

Many players also accused the tool of not taking sufficient account of user data protection because it interferes deeply with software permissions. When the PC starts up, Vanguard checks whether cheat software is installed on the computer. If such a program is installed, Vanguard "Valorant" will no longer start. For many players, however, this is too much interference in their own operating system. The colleagues at ingame.de * also report on the problem with the anti-cheat program Vanguard.

In a Reddit post (via Kotaku), Riot has now announced that some changes will be made to the anti-cheat system , as there is a lot of discussion about the topic in the community. The biggest change concerns players' concern that Vanguard is always active on the system in the background, whether or not "Valorant" has been played. Players can  now manually disable Vanguard at any time . However, if you want to play "Valorant", you have to turn it on again.

Riot Games hopes for the help of the "Valorant" players

Riot Games provides for the discovery of vulnerabilities in anti-cheat system of the new Shooters "Valorant" up to US $ 100,000 (about 90,000 euros ). In the game's closed beta, numerous players have already complained about cheaters. Thanks to "League of Legends", Riot has already had experience with cheat programs. The "Valorant" scams are to be nipped in the bud before the Free2Play title becomes available to everyone later this year.

However, the developers reject the allegations. As reported by Mein-MMO, Vanguard does not collect any information unless "Valorant" is running. In order for the program not to be manipulated, it must already be running at system start. In addition, Riot has published a detailed blog post justifying the continued use of Vanguard.

In addition, the developers offer  between $ 25,000 and $ 100,000 for detecting gaps in the anti-cheat program. The main goal here is to find errors that can affect the privacy of users or their system security. Riot hopes that the community will also help to address Vanguard's vulnerabilities and keep cheats from "Valorant" permanently.

The full version of "Valorant" is due to be released this year

"Valorant" is currently still in beta. The release is planned for this year, but a fixed date has not yet been fixed. The game will be a Free2Play title  - so you can play it for free and unlock additional features with microtransactions.
