(ANSA) - GENEVA, MAY 11 - The number of AIDS deaths in sub-Saharan Africa could double if the health care for HIV patients is interrupted during the coronavirus pandemic. This is the alarm raised by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNAIDS. An interruption in the months of antiretroviral therapies could lead to over 500,000 more deaths in the region in 2020-2021.
In 2018 - according to the latest data provided - an estimated 470,000 people died of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
