Jorge Armenta, director of Medios Obson, was killed on Saturday in Ciudad Obregon, Mexico: he is the third journalist to be killed in Mexico since the beginning of 2020. The regional prosecutor announced on Twitter reporting that he was killed in the ambush even a police officer and a second was injured.
Armenta had received threats and was under government protection, recalled Reporters Without Borders (RSF) who announced they were investigating the type of protection given to the victim.
Claudia Pavlovich Arellano, governor of the state of Sonora, said on Twitter that he had ordered the prosecutor to "immediately initiate an investigation to establish and find those responsible for the reprehensible attack".
For years, the RSF has classified Mexico, together with war-torn Syria and Afghanistan, as the most dangerous countries in the world for media representatives.
