Slaughterhouses affected by the Covid-19: 20 other employees infected in the Loiret

2020-05-18T21:14:04.528Z

Coronavirus cases are increasing in abattoirs in several countries, no doubt due to overcrowding, but also due to conditions

Nearly 80 new tests were carried out on Sunday. Twenty new cases of coronavirus were detected among the employees of a slaughterhouse in Fleury-les-Aubrais (Loiret) on Monday, or 54 in a few days. This sensitive food sector is particularly affected.

In detail, "19 people came directly to the Regional Hospital Center of Orleans," says the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Center-Val de Loire. "The tests continued as planned on Monday for the benefit of 148 people," said the agency, which plans to complete its screening operation on the site on Tuesday. In a press release published Monday evening, Tradival assures that its priority is "to protect the health of (its) employees and service providers".

"Coronavirus May Never Go Away", Says WHO

These new cases grouped in a slaughterhouse are added to several others in France and abroad. A multiplication of cases probably linked to promiscuity, but perhaps also to the cold and ventilation conditions specific to these factories.

Slaughterhouses affected in the United States, Germany…

In Côtes-d'Armor, 69 employees working in a slaughterhouse have tested positive for Covid-19. "Several hundred employees will be tested on Tuesday," announced the director of the regional health agency (ARS), Stéphane Mulliez.

In the United States, slaughterhouse closures have increased after numerous cases of contamination. Four controllers responsible for enforcing health rules died after contracting the disease.
