EU, China respects Hong Kong autonomy

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, MAY 22 - "The EU believes that the democratic debate, the consultation of the main stakeholders and respect for the rights and freedoms in Hong Kong would represent the best way to proceed in the adoption of national security legislation, as expected from article 23 of the basic law ". The EU High Representative Josep Borrell said in a statement, underlining that the EU "supports both the autonomy of Hong Kong and the 'one country two systems' principle and will continue to follow developments".
