(ANSA) - PARIS, MAY 31 - The churchyard of Notre-Dame reopens today in Paris, after more than a year, which had been closed by the authorities following the fire of the cathedral. This was announced by the diocese together with the municipality and the body that supervises the renovation works.
In the churchyard and rue du Parvis, following the fire on April 15, 2019, "a lead pollution that made it necessary to close the area immediately" was recorded, the three institutions said in a statement. But after the "favorable opinion" of the Regional Health Agency of Ile-de-France, arrived last Friday, the prefect of Paris authorized the reopening of both the churchyard and the street.
As a precaution, regular cleaning will be carried out at both sites. The reopening will take place in the afternoon in the presence of the archbishop of Paris, Msgr. Michel Aupetit, Mayor Anne Hidalgo, and General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who directs the public company of Notre-Dame.
