(ANSA) - MILAN, JUNE 5 - The Nespresso initiative for the creation of a cup of coffee with a positive impact returns for the second consecutive year: from June 8, in fact, all customers who will bring the exhausted capsules back to the Nespresso boutiques where the collection service is active, they will receive a 1kg bag of compost for free, while supplies last.
Through this initiative, Nespresso supports the idea of circularity which is also the basis of the "Da Chicco a Chicco" initiative, the program that tells the journey made by the coffee bean along the entire production chain, from its cultivation in the territories of 'origin until its transformation into rice grain, coming from a paddy field where the compost generated from the coffee of the exhausted capsules is used as fertilizer. The capsule recycling process sees the direct involvement of consumers. In fact, consumers are the ones who contribute to the brand's recycling project by returning the exhausted capsules. Once collected, the capsules are brought to a plant that allows to separate the coffee residues from the aluminum, starting the materials with two different recovery cycles. Aluminum, which is 100% recycled, is destined for foundries to start the recycling process which will transform it into new objects. The coffee instead becomes compost and is donated to a rice paddy. The rice produced is repurchased by Nespresso and subsequently donated to Banco Alimentare della Lombardia. So far, the program, which operates through 113 collection points in 67 Italian cities, has made it possible to donate 2 million 954 thousand portions of rice to Banco Alimentare della Lombardia.
