Coronavirus stress can impair adherence to diabetes treatments. And it can also affect diabetic doctors who, due to the Covid emergency, may be at risk of anxiety about the revolution that has occurred in their work. This is why the Association of Diabetes Doctors (AMD) and the Italian Society of Diabetes (Sid) have launched the 'Online psychologists for diabetes' project. A list of psychologists has been published on the websites of both scientific societies, with a short profile, region of origin, e-mail contact and telephone number, who have made themselves available for a free consultation. For patients and healthcare professionals interested in using the service, simply contact one of the specialists on the list to make an appointment and fill in the informed consent. The advice will take place online, thanks to Skype, WhatsApp video call or with a phone call. "The Covid-19 emergency has triggered emotions of fear, solitude and isolation - comments Francesco Purrello, president of Sid - Even the habits imposed by the so-called 'new normal' make a process of readaptation necessary, not always easy to activate. People with diabetes they are among the most at risk categories: the alteration of the daily routine can change the behaviors underlying good self-management and compromise healthy lifestyles ".
Speaking of the service also open to doctors, the president of Amd, Paolo di Bartolo, underlines how "with the coronavirus, the diabetologist, as well as all the other doctors, found himself facing an unprecedented emergency, against an invisible enemy who it took everyone by surprise "and" they had to develop a transformation that requires a great deal of both cognitive and emotional affective participation ".
