Given the increase in cases reported by Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, is Israel at the beginning of a second wave of coronaviruses? The director of health services at the ministry of health Sigal Sadetzky is convinced of this, as she said when speaking to a Knesset Commission. "We had - he explained - a long period of over two weeks of calm with less than 20 infections per day. Then it started to rise and rise and now we are close to 200 new infections per day". The problem, however, in Sadetzky's opinion, is not only the increase in the number of positives, but something even more worrying. "What characterizes the wave we are witnessing - he explained - is the fact of occurring across the country. We do not really know - he added - how to identify groups at risk. We see it running everywhere and spreading in a geographical area very vast ". The first clusters of the new diffusion were in recent days schools, but now - according to the director of the ministry of health - there is a further diversification.
The alarm was picked up by the government authorities: the prime minister himself reiterated the invitation to the Israelis to strictly follow the rules of distancing and masks, under penalty of - he warned - new restrictions. The powerful director general of the ministry Moshe Bar Siman Tov who managed the initial wave of the pandemic was also "surprised" by the speed of the current spread. However, he has shown himself more likely on his ability to contain it and, above all, without resorting to the downturn of the economy. "We can still be relatively optimistic - he said - and reduce the curve without lockdown. We must follow the guidelines, especially for the masks".
